Returning to What Lies Beneath: Therapeutic Salt, Sand and Desert Retreat Siwa Oasis
23rd August – 2nd September 2026
We are inviting a small circle to gather for a ten-night journey into the hidden heart of Egypt — the Siwa Oasis — where salt, sand, and silence form the ancient medicines of the land. Set between shimmering salt lakes and the golden edge of the Sahara, this retreat offers a rare chance to experience the deep stillness of the desert and the healing power of its elements. Each day unfolds as a dialogue with nature: salt cleansing, sand purifying, and silence restoring what lies beneath.
This sacred pilgrimage is not about escape, but return — returning to the body, to breath, and to the subtle intelligence of the earth. Guided practices in movement, meditation, and ceremony help weave the physical and spiritual processes together, inviting renewal through the elements. Whether you are a seeker of depth, a therapist in need of replenishment, or simply called by the desert’s quiet wisdom, we offer a space to rest, release, and remember your original rhythm.
RETREAT INFORMATION
Sand, Salt & Silence
Hidden deep within Egypt’s Western Desert lies Siwa Oasis, an ancient cradle of stillness where salt, sand, and silence become medicine. Here, the elements themselves offer purification — the salt draws out what no longer serves, the sand warms and renews, and the silence invites you home to yourself.
This ten-night retreat is a journey through the elemental layers of being — a process of release, reconnection, and remembering what lies beneath.
The Medicine of the Land
Siwa’s landscape carries a profound intelligence — shaped by time, heat, and the memory of ancient seas. Its salt lakes hold an exceptionally high salinity, almost 95%, allowing the body to float effortlessly and the nervous system to settle into deep stillness.
The salt pools are among the purest natural saline waters on Earth. Early in the morning, before the desert heat rises, we enter them quietly — allowing the minerals to cleanse the skin, clear the breath, and restore balance to the inner waters of the body.
Nearby, the salt caves offer a sanctuary of crystalline calm. The air is saturated with trace minerals that soothe the lungs and support the natural rhythms of the heart and mind. Within their gentle glow, silence becomes tangible — a field of presence that steadies and renews.
The sand baths continue this process of purification. Heated by the desert sun, the fine grains envelop the body, drawing out physical and energetic tension while awakening the deep intelligence of the tissues. It is a surrender to the Earth — a soft burial and a quiet rebirth.
The journey concludes in the vast open desert, where we spend a night beneath the stars. Here, wrapped in silence, the body integrates what has been released, and the spirit expands into spacious awareness.
The Environment
Siwa rests at the very edge of the desert — where the palms give way to dunes, and you can see where the sands begin to stretch toward the Great Sand Sea. The oasis lies in a shallow depression below sea level, and at night the air is so clear that the stars and moon appear startlingly close to the land.
Here, the sky feels nearer — as if heaven leans in to meet the earth. The silence of the desert amplifies the brilliance of the night, and each star burns with ancient memory. This is the landscape that will hold you — vast, timeless, and full of quiet intelligence.
You’ll stay on an intentionally built farm crafted from local materials and designed to bring the masculine and feminine archetypal energies into physical form. At its heart lies a sacred space — a dojo where heaven meets earth — created for spiritual practice and communion with the elements.
Throughout the retreat, you’ll be supported by a team of local Siwan people who have been friends of the family whose farm we work on for many years. Their warmth, wisdom, and deep connection to the land bring authenticity and heart to every part of the experience.
There is solar power, warm desert air, and star-filled nights. The rhythm of each day follows the sun: early mornings for practice and quiet afternoons for rest and reflection.
Food is local and nourishing, Wi-Fi is limited, and time unfolds slowly. Everything here invites you to be fully present — to rest, to feel, and to remember.
The Journey: From Salt to Sand to Silence
Across ten nights, you’ll move gently through elemental stages of cleansing and renewal:
- Salt Cave – enter the crystalline stillness, breathe deeply, and let the minerals open your inner pathways.
- Salt Pools – float in the sunrise waters, attuning to the healing rhythm of the desert’s morning light.
- Sand Bath – surrender to the warmth of the sun-heated earth, release, and renew.
- Desert Night – lie beneath the stars and receive the quiet transmission of silence.
This is an elemental initiation — a remembering through the body. Each phase softens the boundaries between body and spirit, preparing you to meet the vastness within.
Who This Retreat Is for
This experience is for those who feel the call to simplify, to strip away the noise, and to reconnect with what is real.
It is for those in transition — therapists, healers, seekers, and anyone longing for deeper rest and spiritual renewal.
You do not need previous experience, only a willingness to listen — to yourself, to the land, and to the quiet intelligence that lives beneath all movement.
Group size is limited to 6 participants
Therapeutic Support & Daily Practice
Each day will include a carefully guided practice to support your personal process — movement, meditation, relaxation, ritual, or ceremony — designed to help you navigate the inner worlds that arise throughout the retreat. These practices are crafted to encourage and integrate the catalytic effects that the sand bath and elemental immersion can initiate in body, mind, and spirit.
Work will take place in the sacred space — the dojo where heaven meets earth. Early in the morning, there is the opportunity to greet the sun on the roof terrace, allowing each person to attune to the light and rhythm of the day. Through these practices, you’ll connect with the ancient cosmology of Egypt, aligning your awareness with the solar cycles that have guided seekers for millennia. Each session provides a bridge between inner and outer experience, grounding transformation in presence and breath.
The Invitation
This immersion is not a retreat to escape the world, but to return to it more whole. Through the medicine of salt, sand, and silence, the desert invites you to shed the layers that no longer serve and to stand once again in the truth of your being — clear, grounded, and awake.
Each day in Siwa unfolds as part of a larger process — a pilgrimage through the elements. You’ll be gently guided through purification, renewal, integration, and remembrance. Every morning begins in stillness — greeting the sun, listening to the breath of the land. Every evening closes in reflection — wrapped in silence beneath the desert sky.

The Flow Of The Retreat
Day 1: Arrival — Entering the Stillness
Arrive at the oasis and settle into the rhythm of the land. Feel the shift from movement to stillness as you cross from the outer world into sacred space. Evening orientation and soft grounding practice in the dojo welcome you to the retreat’s circle.
Day 2: Salt Cave — Crystalline Cleansing
Enter the crystalline silence of the salt cave. Breathe deeply, allowing the mineral-rich air to clear the lungs and mind. Here the journey begins — a release of tension and thought, returning to elemental simplicity.
Day 3: Salt Pools — Floating in Light
At sunrise, we enter the salt pools, floating weightless on the mirror-like water. The salinity holds you effortlessly, dissolving boundaries between body and sky. A process that can open the heart to renewal, followed by quiet integration and rest through the day.
Day 4: Sand Bath — The First Surrender
The desert sun warms the sand until it radiates life. You are gently immersed, the fine grains enveloping you in heat and stillness. This is the first deep release — a surrender to the earth and the alchemy of transformation.
Day 5: Sand Bath — Descent and Deepening
The second immersion invites a deeper surrender. The body has already learned the language of the sand — now it listens more closely. As warmth seeps through each layer, something older begins to move: the patterns held in muscle and memory may start to release.
Day 6: Sand Bath — The Turning Point
The third sand bath is the culmination of the purification process. Many feel this as a threshold — a passage between what has been and what is yet to emerge.
Day 7: Integration — Resting in Stillness
After the intensity of the sand baths, the body and psyche need softness. This day is devoted to gentle movement, nourishment, and rest. We work with practices to stabilise the system and let the transformation settle.
Day 8: Integration — Holding the Emerging
Morning movement and creative reflection anchor the new awareness emerging from within. The practices invite you to stay with the process, embody what has awakened and hold steady and await the luxury of washing.
Day 9: Integration — Celebration and Returning
The final washing takes place in water that rises from the earth itself. The farm’s hammam and natural pool offer space for cleansing — a gentle immersion that honours the body and the journey it has undertaken. The mineral-rich water cools and restores, washing away the final traces of heat and intensity from the experience.
Here, renewal becomes tangible. It is not just symbolic — it is felt through skin, breath, and presence. The day carries the quiet joy of celebration. This is a return to balance — to self, to the community, and to the living spirit of the land that has held each transformation.
Day 10: Night in the Desert — Communion with the Infinite
Here, beneath the same stars that have watched over this desert for millennia, we rest — remembering that what lies beneath is also what holds us.
We travel into the open desert as the sun descends. A meal is shared beneath the stars, cooked in the traditional Siwan way beneath the sand. Then, wrapped in blankets, we rest in silence. The sky is vast, the stars near enough to touch. Here, salt, sand, and silence meet — completing the circle of return.
