Pilamaya Soma Yoga 300-Hours Teacher Training
Pilamaya means ‘thank you’ in the language of the Lakota First Nation people of the Americas. This word embodies the sense of gratitude and contentment brought into the gift of life via embodied practices such as yoga and other Earth-based traditions. The course honours the wisdom gathered and shared by the seekers and keepers who have served humanity since we began to walk this Earth. The Pilamaya Soma Yoga 300-hours TT brought itself into existence through Shaura, and it is calling to those who will enter into our field.
Pilamaya Soma Yoga is an advanced teaching course that offers a bio-spiritual approach that brings together the scientific and the sacred to integrate the whole person. This self-development course imparts diverse knowledge and holds space for students to learn how to teach embodied practices from a therapeutic perspective. Pilamaya wishes to share what is needed for the adventure to truly begin and provides a foundation for anyone who wishes to undertake the Meditation and Facilitation course.
Permission from the elders has been given to name this journey Pilamaya and to share any of the First Nation concepts or songs that are offered on the course.
How it is
This version of the Pilamaya vibration has emerged through Shaura due to her interaction with sacred ceremony, prayer, diverse yogic and therapeutic practices. It honours the medicine wheel teachings by following the cycle of life and elemental forces that uphold the Earth experience.
Pilamaya specifically opens a portal to the road that leads us to heart-way living—a way of being that is connected to this planet and beyond. It delves deeply into the potential for transformation through innovative applications of somatic practices, yoga asana, breathwork, and sacred sounds. Furthermore, we explore how ritualistic practices have connected to divine energy from the beginning of recorded time. Pilamaya supports students to reconnect to their innate wisdom, cultivate their unique offerings, and step into the ritual of their lives.
Pilamaya Soma Yoga has a shamanic perspective, for when we all reach back to our roots as children of the Earth, our re-connection to this simple fact brings us onto the heart-way. In becoming heart–warriors, we align with the whole of nature, and our place in the world becomes more apparent.
How it Goes
The programme has an alchemical flow that is born out of a clear vision to develop humans, so their unique influence on future generations is in line with Earth’s evolution. It aligns with the medicine wheel’s four directions (found in many indigenous systems) and the fifth element, which is the centre. Therefore, we will take a journey from birth to death, from the north back to the north, from winter through spring, summer, and autumn, until we reach the winter again.
The training experience builds consecutively upon each focus to impart a deep understanding of how embodied practices meet the person where they are and evolve as they grow. Participants leave the training with a deeper comprehension of human dynamics and the confidence to work with individuals and groups.
Included in the material is embodied Kundalini Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Hatha Yoga, embodied Yin Yoga, Laya Yoga, spontaneous movement, sacred songs, breathwork, meditation, use of ritual for self-care and one:one work, creation of ceremony in groups, poetry, art, process work, therapeutic integration, and assessment tools. We also have a workshop on the use of hypnotherapy for relation and trauma-informed yoga.
What it Gives
Our students leave this training with a clearer understanding of themselves as co-evolving humans—evolving alongside this Earth and all other beings. Therefore, the Pilamaya training course is suitable for people who wish to undergo a profound self-integration process.
All students will leave understanding how these multidimensional practices are effective to lead groups or individuals towards embodiment. The training instils responsible teaching and includes developing compassion, sensitivity, and confidence to create safety for all students.
Pilamaya students learn how the development of movement patterns impact brain development. Through their own experiences, the students become proficient in curating sessions to work with each person’s innate intelligence. Learning to listen carefully to the body, the emotions, the mind, and the Field bring forth the alchemist in the facilitator. The co-creative dance begins.
Mirroring the vastness of wisdom, we delve into a philosophical dialogue that encourages connections between the energetic and the biochemical levels of the human being. We discuss how to weave philosophical themes into movement and breathwork. Students will also learn how the anatomical, physiological, neurophysiological, and subtle energetic systems influence the whole person.

- The course is divided into five sections that share a specifically themed journey.
- The major topics of the course manual will be covered in embodied practices, lectures, and discussions. The ethos of Pilamaya will be modelled throughout the course. Students are expected to hone their observation skills and pick up any subjects that are woven through the content.
- Some topics are covered between teaching times in online group-participation seminars and in online material.
- Students will explore the material and what is arising in small groups, triads, online, and in self practice.
- We teach movement and asana to support the overall theme of each focus. This allows students to explore particular ‘families’ of movement to gain further knowledge that will lead to this unique style of delivery.
- The programme has a specific content that must be delivered on or between the teaching times. Pilamaya recognises that each group has unique needs, and therefore there is an organic element to the course. Students are invited to come with a willingness to participate and learn from the group dynamics.
The Online Times
We are pleased to announce that Yoga Alliance Professionals is supporting the delivery of trainings online until further notice. Therefore, we have decided to offer Pilamaya in 60-hour modules, so that teachers, therapists and long term practitioners who wish to either take a short course that stands alone or work towards the full programme can do so while the world is in flux.
The structure of each online module is as follows.

The first Quadrant of the Pilamaya Soma Yoga 300hrs TT
EMERGE invites the participant to consciously claim their highest potential through experiential processes that include re-birthing. The element that we embody is water, the meridians are the kidneys, the urinary tract and the bladder. There are two somatic focusses, the course begins to sense into The Shakti Body where the practitioner is invited to recognise the sublimity of life that is contained within and moves through the body. We move onto feeling The Emotive Body, as we become aware that emotions and body work together to allow us to experience the dance of shakti.
Participants will learn to use some of the exercises from Kundalini Yoga and spontaneous movements that are particularly useful as warm-up practices, gentle sequences or chair yoga. They will also be curating and delivering Yoga Nidra practices for relaxation and transformation. The energy of this quadrant draws our attention to the stories that we hold about our births; we use methods that allow us to re-write ourselves into existence. Becoming aware of our expressive lifeforce leads us to the subject of shadows; we explore our interactions with the parts of ourselves that are unseen or unclaimed. In these times of great change, we are processing shadows that have been deeply buried in the collective for thousands of years, every integration counts towards the return to wholeness for humanity. Thus, we learn to listen to our bodies, with a willingness to process what arises from the depths of our beings. These yogic techniques are powerful healing tools that engender fresh energy by nourishing systems that are have been overstimulated. The integration work and learning will be valuable to yoga teachers and therapist alike

The second Quadrant of the Pilamaya Soma Yoga 300hrs TT
AWAKEN invites the participant to consciously claim their highest potential through experiential processes that focus on awakening. The element that we embody is wood, the meridians are the liver and the gallbladder. There are two somatic focuses, the course begins to sense into how the body moves forward in space – The Propelling Body. The practitioner is invited to explore the relationship between movement and the nervous system, in particular, how rhythm and repetition create patterns that lead to ease of movement. We become aware that we belong to flow of life and start to direct our own dance. This naturally leads us to experience The Awakening Body, where the awareness of the body as a microcosmic representation of the entire Universe is downloaded.
Participants will learn to use practices from Hatha Yoga and spontaneous movements; using our knowledge of how movement gives rise to neuroplasticity, we use rhythmic sequencing delivered with a somatic understanding to speed up the process of change. This is particularly useful for those who wish to deliver practices that are rooted in embodiment and scientific knowledge. Our exploration of the autonomic nervous system includes the stress response and explores how mind and body practice can be used to support internal stability. The principles of this quadrant also create the foundation for trauma- informed approaches; we have a workshop on teaching for vulnerable people. Yoga teachers and therapist would benefit from learning how flow yoga and relaxation practices can be used to reduce the biological effects of the stress response and bring balance to the nervous system.

The centre of the Pilamaya Soma Yoga 300hrs TT
COMPREHEND invites the participant to consciously claim their highest potential through experiential processes that focus on comprehending themselves as intuitive beings in the web of life. The element we embody is fire and the meridians are the small intestine and the heart. There are two somatic focusses. As be become aware of our true selves we connect to The Broadcasting Body, we comprehend the subtle the messages that emanate from us and out to the field. We go on to explore The Intuitive Body; becoming conscious of the messages that flit between us and the field. Our somatic awareness recognises the body as vehicle that absorbs, transforms and emanates; we feel the flow of life that passes through us.
Participants will learn to use practices from Hatha and Kundalini Yoga together with spontaneous movements to engender transformation in the physical and energy bodies. Using meditations with fire and learning how to conduct respectful fire rituals connect us to this lifegiving element. A deeper exploration into the practice of mudras elucidates how we can conserve and move energy by sealing fingers and body parts together. Furthermore, working with mudras deepens our relationship to the silent communication used over the ages to commune with deities. We explore the use of ceremony and ritual in group settings or therapeutic work, this includes processes around the use of initiation to mark changes in the cycle of life. We specifically bring our focus to the gross and subtle systems that are linked to transformation. The circulatory system supports the organism by transporting gases; we work with practices that stimulate the circulatory system in tandem with those that generate movement in the energetic systems. This module concentrates on shifting deep imprints that reside in the unconscious; as such, it prepares the way for the practitioner to walk the sacred path and leave more of the personal narratives behind. The course will have significant value to yoga teachers who have been teaching for a number of years; it will be of equal benefit to therapists who are in the process of undergoing their own deep transformational work and those who hold space for others.

The third quadrant of the Pilamaya Soma Yoga 300hrs TT
DEEPEN invites the participant to consciously claim their highest potential through experiential processes that focus on deepening into the centre. The element that we embody is earth; the merdians are the speen and the stomach. There is one somatic focus; we connect to The Receptive Body as a part of the interconnecting web of life. As we deepen into ourselves, the interoceptive, exteroceptive and proprioceptive senses heighten. The body becomes the receiver of the continuous flow of information from the field, the awareness becomes aware of itself in multiple locations. As we journey into our depths we enter into relationship with the central dreamer of life; we become conscious of ourselves in the dream.
Participants will learn to use practices from Hatha Yoga and spontaneous movements; exploring tantrik mediations and practices that connect us to the subtle aspects of our beings. By systematically placing our awareness in the subtle body we gain access to portals that open out into our earlier consciousness; deep healing occurs when we integrate the aspects of self that have been left behind.
We discover how to use storytelling and metaphor in our therapeutic or movement-based practices. We explore the seven major chakras in depth and elucidate the difference between the traditional practices and the Western model, that has been developed into bio-psycho-social- spiritual framework, currently used by therapists and healers to encourage balance. Glancing into the research on mirror neurons supports our exploration of how movement and ritual can be used to develop rapport with others and also support executive function (regulated brain). This is particularly useful for yoga teachers and therapists, who wish to have a deeper understanding of how subtle body practices can be utilised for deep healing in clients or groups.

The fourth Quadrant of the Pilamaya Soma Yoga 300hrs TT
SURRENDER invites the participant to consciously claim their highest potential through experiential processes that connect to the Great Mystery. The element we embody is metal and the meridians are the lungs and the large intestine. There are two somatic focuses. We are conscious that we carry The Universe in the Body as we walk in beauty, acknowledging our true nature leads us to accept the inevitable and eventually we surrender to the divine inside. We recognise ourselves as the medicine of life, take our places as The Dancer in the web of life; we share our light with the rest of life.
Participants will learn to use Embodied Yin, spontaneous movement, and Yoga Nidra to deeply experience their inner-worlds. As we celebrate ourselves for making it this far, we also learn how to work with the ending that must come before the next beginning. The respiratory system shows us how each breath is an ending and beginning, and so, we discuss this vital aspect of our existence. We explore how our practice supports the lymphatic system to deliver waste fluids over to the circulatory system and out via the kidneys, urinary system. The practices and meditations bring us back to the Elder who resides in the heart. As we connect to what has always been there our presence shifts to a whole new frequency; the wisdom in the heart returns and we broadcast our innate magnificence. The observer that looks through these eyes sees the true energy of the Universe, encompassing both light and dark – the force of Love. This quadrant will have a deeply nourishing effect on those who have undergone transformational processes that include shadow and integrative work. It offers the opportunity to reside in our essence and to celebrate ourselves and each other. It will be of benefit to yoga teachers who wish to include the practices and ceremony in their workshops. Therapists who take this training will connect to something greater than themselves; the energy that they broadcast into the field becomes potent with the force of Love.

The course will run with an in-person and online framework.

This course is not residential, Eyam is a historic village and there are many different accommodation options. The 5 night residential will be held close to Eyam.
The full Investment for this training is £3750 a non-refundable deposit of £1000 is required when booking.The deposit will be taken once the student has been accepted onto the course, at this point the student becomes liable for the training.This price includes all of your training and accommodation on the 5 night residential.
- The Early Bird rate of £3500 finishes 3 months before the courses commences.
Pilamaya employs a probationary period to allow itself and the participants the opportunity to ascertain whether the course is a good fit for them at that time. This period extends to the end of the first weekend of Quadrant One and gives both the cohort and the Pilamaya team time to assess the relationship between the process and the group.
- For seven days after the first weekend the participant can request to leave the course for any reason at all.
- For seven days after the first weekend, Pilamaya can also request that a participant leave the program and apply again at another time.
- In both cases Pilamaya will refund all monies that have been paid minus the pro rata costs of the venue and teaching time.
Following receipt of a deposit, the full balance is due prior to the commencement of training. However, we do understand that this is a serious investment and are happy to discuss payment plans that can extend after the first weekend on the proviso that a contract is signed between the student and Pilamaya to confirm student liability for the full fee.
We have made every effort to make this course financially accessible both in our pricing and payment structure. In line with the ethos of Pilamaya we operate a 100% transparency policy, this means that we do not enter into special payment deals.
Once admitted onto the course, each student is liable for the full training fee; there is no obligation on the part of Shaura Hall under the trading name of The Yogologist or Pilamaya to refund monies if a student decides not to complete the training.
In the unfortunate event that a student becomes ill during the course, we will do our utmost to support the student to complete the course but we cannot refund any of the course fee.
Should the student have the good fortune to become pregnant, we will support the process but we cannot refund any of the course fee.

We continually assess the progress and process of each student as an individual participant, as a group member, and as a soul on a learning journey with Pilamaya.
The weekends and the residential have significant periods of time for students to work alone, in pairs, triads, and small groups for self-directed learning. As part of the assessment strategy, participants will deliver practices to each other, give feedback to group members, self-reflect, and complete a self-assessment form online. The online form records all of the assessment criteria for the course; it also allows the student to observe their Pilamaya journey from start to finish.
We offer two student-review sessions over the duration of the course: one at the six-month mark and one at 12 months. Such sessions are opportunities for the student and tutor to explore what is present for them at the time. Sessions will include conversations around course work and personal development.
Each module requires the student to complete:
- Two assignments that are no less than 500 and no more than 700 words.
- Two practices that show that the student has understood the focus material.
- Home practice.
- Home learning material where appropriate.
- Online anatomy questions.
- Including the material in their current teaching practice and reflections upon the outcome.
- Self-reflection and processing of what arises.
By the end of the course students will have structured:
- One eight-week movement / yoga course,
- One six-hour workshop, and
- One 12-hour weekend workshop.
Students will also regularly deliver and give feedback to each other regarding the following:
- Movement practices,
- Short meditation, and
- Yoga Nidras.
We feel that lifelong learning experiences must be imprinted into our hearts. Because we know that this integration comes at different times and in individual ways, we do not grade students as such, rather, we have a level of competence that we expect will be reached by the participants.
If we feel that you need extra support in relation to teaching, we will offer solutions such as contact with one of the team outside of the course hours. Any time for extra tuition or processing work is classed beyond the course fee and would involve additional costs.
Students are required to attend all weekends and the residential. We can allow students to miss one weekend if circumstances arise that are outside of their control but the work must be caught up on. Any further absences require the student/s to make up time with a tutor.
